कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।

“The soul is neither born, and nor does it die.”

न जायते म्रियते वा कदाचिन्।

“Whenever dharma declines and the purpose of life is forgotten, I manifest myself on earth.”

यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत।

“The mind is restless, turbulent, obstinate and very strong, O Krishna, and to subdue it, I think, is more difficult than controlling the wind.”

चञ्चलं हि मनः कृष्ण प्रमाथि बलवद्दृढम्।

“For one who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends; but for one who has failed to do so, the mind will remain the greatest enemy.”

बन्धुरात्मात्मनस्तस्य येनात्मैवात्मना जितः।

“There is neither this world, nor the world beyond, nor happiness for the one who doubts.”

नायं लोकोऽस्ति न परो न सुखं संशयात्मनः।

“A person can rise through the efforts of their own mind; they can also degrade themselves. Because each person is their own friend or enemy.”

उद्धरेदात्मनात्मानं नात्मानमवसादयेत्।

“When meditation is mastered, the mind is unwavering like the flame of a lamp in a windless place.”

यथा दीपो निवातस्थो नेङ्गते सोपमा स्मृता।

“From anger, complete delusion arises, and from delusion bewilderment of memory. When memory is bewildered, intelligence is lost.”

क्रोधाद्भवति सम्मोहः सम्मोहात्स्मृतिविभ्रमः।

“The wise grieve neither for the living nor for the dead.”

गतासूनगतासूंश्च नानुशोचन्ति पण्डिताः।
