What this kundli calculator shows

A Janam Kundli (birth chart) is a map of the sky at the moment and place you were born. This calculator computes it from your birth date, time and place using the Swiss Ephemeris with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsha, the same sidereal method professional Vedic astrologers use. It reports the ascendant (Lagna), the Moon sign (Rashi), the position of the nine grahas in the twelve houses, the Nakshatra your Moon occupies, and your active Vimshottari dasha period — the traditional 120-year cycle of planetary periods.

These are calculated facts, presented in the North Indian diamond or South Indian square layout you prefer. What they mean for a decision you are facing is a question for reflection — you can continue into the conversation and ask about any placement in the chart.

How to read the chart

  • Ascendant (Lagna)

    The sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth. It sets the first house and the orientation of the whole chart.

  • Planets and houses

    Which graha sits in which bhava, at what degree, and whether it is exalted, debilitated or retrograde in that sign.

  • Vimshottari dasha

    The planetary period running now, and its sub-periods — the traditional timing layer of Jyotish.

Is the kundli calculation accurate?
The chart uses the Swiss Ephemeris with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) sidereal ayanamsha. Results depend on the birth time, place and calculation settings; chart calculation and traditional interpretation are different things.
Why do you need exact birth time and place?
The ascendant (Lagna) changes roughly every 2 hours and house cusps depend on exact latitude and longitude.
Can I switch between North Indian and South Indian chart styles?
Yes. You can switch between the North Indian Diamond format and the South Indian Square format anytime in the Chart tab.
